Description
The Cinq Préludes by Heitor Villa-Lobos are the last work for solo guitar that the Brazilian composer wrote in the summer of 1940. The Préludes do not represent a cycle, but rather a heterogeneous collection that has a similar character to that of an album, as each of the Préludes develops individually into a different instrumental technique.
Heitor Villa-Lobos positions the Préludes as a kind of equilibrium point between a style that is still similar to the Suite brésilienne popular in the 19th century, but already contains daring experiments as in the Douze Études. In the present edition, the resulting editing problems have been taken into account on the basis of all available sources, resulting in a reliable musical text with accompanying fingerings.
