Description
Like Alban Berg's Violin Concerto, the Two Sad Poems are dedicated to the memory of an angel: In this case, the gifted violist Helena Maria Maas, who died very young in 1980. In order to express these deeply felt emotions, both pieces were conceived in a dissonant and tonally unstable musical language. On closer inspection, these memories and feelings have found their expression in the compositional features.
