In Volume 8 of the Bärenreiter edition of Bach’s organ works, the composer appears as a brilliant synthesizer of styles: with great sensitivity, he translates the vibrant concerto culture of his time – particularly that of Antonio Vivaldi and Prince Johann Ernst of Saxe-Weimar – to the organ, creating original works full of energy, drama, and rich musical texture.
