Reger Sonate op 107

As Johannes Brahms had already done with his Opus 120, Reger envisaged two alternative solo instruments for his Sonata op. 107: "I will also arrange the clarinet part for viola so that the work can also be played in this way" (letter to the publisher). Under no circumstances did he want to leave the preparation of the viola part to the publisher, as slurs would have to be changed here and there and octave transpositions made - "only I can do this work!" The sonorous middle register of the viola comes close to the clarinet register, but gives the work its very own coloring. Viola players will also appreciate this Urtext edition because of the practical fingerings and bowings.
