Description
Cesar Franck Sonata in A major for violin and piano - revised Urtext edition by Henle
.In contrast to other of his late works, Franck's Violin Sonata, composed in 1886, was warmly received by audiences and critics from the outset. The sonata is dedicated to Eugène Ysaÿe, who caused a sensation at the time with his flawless violin technique. Ysaÿe was so enthusiastic about it that he promised: "I will play this masterpiece wherever I find an artistically minded pianist". The popularity of the work has not changed to this day, but it was time to revise the previous Henle edition in line with the latest research. It can now be proven that Franck was actively involved in reading the galley proofs, so that the first edition, with numerous additions to the autograph, now serves as the basis for this new edition. The violin part of this edition is marked by Yehudi Menuhin - the adaptations to the revised musical text were made by Daniel Hope.
