Biber Passacaglia

Description
Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber is one of the most influential violin composers of the Baroque era - his solo works are at the beginning of a tradition that would later culminate in Bach. The Passacaglia is a real soloist highlight: an astonishingly bold and varied musical architecture unfolds over a basso ostinato of four descending notes (repeated a total of 65 times) - at once meditative, virtuosic and dramatically strong.
This edition offers a practical, carefully edited version: dynamics, phrasing and expression markings are - with the exception of a "piano" in the penultimate bar - by the editor. Obvious inaccuracies have been corrected and missing ornaments and arpeggios have been added in keeping with the style. For better readability, a notation adapted to modern usage has also been used (including differentiated neck directions for voice leading).
