Brahms Sonate G major op 78

Description
Brahms' first violin sonata in G major is also known as the "Rain Song Sonata", as the final movement quotes melodic motifs from his two songs Regenlied and Nachklang (which also has rain as its theme). The dotted opening motif of the finale runs through the first two movements and thus contributes to the inner cohesion of this wonderfully expressive and elegiac work. Completed in 1879, the sonata was enthusiastically received by contemporaries - Elisabeth von Herzogenberg, a close friend of Brahms, stated that it "must be loved like little else in the world".
The musical text of this revised Urtext edition is based on the newly compiled volume of the New Brahms Complete Edition, which guarantees maximum scholarly accuracy.
