Sankyo headjoints are available in a variety of materials, including 24-, 18-, 14- and 10-karat gold as well as 997 pure silver, sterling silver or, like this one, 950 silver. The headjoint is the point where the airflow first makes contact with the flute; therefore, the material of the headjoint has an extraordinary influence on the sound palette and response. As musicians' lips differ greatly, Sankyo is one of the few manufacturers to offer differently shaped lip plates.
