As one of the most important representatives of Czech music in Vienna
Czech music of the 18th century in Vienna, Leopold Kozeluch
(1747-1818) was known as a composer, pianist and piano teacher. His 50
piano sonatas show both the development of the transition from harpsichord
from the harpsichord or clavichord to the pianoforte as well as that of the
sonata at the turn of the 19th century.
To date, only a few modern editions have been available; the new
edition by Christopher Hogwood presents for the first time all of Kozeluch's
Kozeluch's sonatas for solo piano.
Each of the four volumes contains 12 to 13 sonatas, arranged chronologically according to
chronologically according to the date of the first print.
The fourth volume (edited in cooperation with Ryan Mark) contains
the sonatas that have only survived in manuscript sources.
